Students the the 4/5/6 Learning Area ran hard fought campaigns to sway their peers in an electoral debate full of persuasive advertising and clever campaigning. It was a vibrant way to explore the importance of democracy in our community.
Students in the unpper primary area have been learning about the importance of democracy including the parliamentary and election processes. Grouped into small parties they refined their key policies and developed campaigns in order to win votes from their peers. Some were standing for longer recesses, others for more Physical Education lessons.
Students had a chance to convince their electorate (3/4 students) in speeches on Wednesday. It was a great opportunity for the middle school to vote and the older students to explore the complexity of a preferential voting system.
Everbody left knowing lots more aboout democratic life in Australia. Although they will not be voting at the end of year state elections, we are sure they will be watching with well informed eyes!
