Outdoor Spaces

Rosanna Primary School has a range of outdoor spaces that support play, learning and student wellbeing. These spaces are designed to help children feel comfortable, included and connected throughout the school day.

Playgrounds for Prep to Year 6

Our primary school in Rosanna has three age-appropriate playgrounds, designed with different age groups in mind. This helps ensure play spaces are fun, safe and engaging for all students.

There is a playground designed for younger students in the early years, as wellas separate playgrounds suited to middle and upper primary students. All playgrounds are shaded and are used before and after school, as well as during recess and lunch breaks. These spaces support active play, social connection and quieter moments with friends.

Oval and active play areas

The school oval is a well‑used outdoor space where students take part in a range of play activities. These include exploring the treed areas, using the long jump pit, playing basketball, or kicking a football. In 2024, volunteers installed a GaGa pit, which students use during break times.

The school also contains 2 synthetic play spaces inluding a full sized netball / basketball court, handball courts and marked courts for additoonal games. Along side this, there are open spaces within the school for running games, tiered seating for passive play and gardens for adventuring.

Outdoor learning spaces and school programs

In 2024, the Friends of Rosanna Primary School (FORPS) supported the development of an outdoor learning space with tiered seating. This shaded area is used as a gathering space at lunchtime and as part of school programs that extend learning beyond the classroom in a calm and supportive setting.

Frog bog and nature‑based learning

With support from Banyule Council, a Frog Bog was created as part of the Year 3–4 learning area. Staff, students and families worked together to create this quiet outdoor space, including frog habitats. The area is open to all and provides a peaceful place for students to pause, notice nature and feel settled at school.
