Music and Performing Arts

Music and Performing Arts are specialist learning areas that support creativity, confidence and self‑expression in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Students visit Music and Performing Arts lessons once a week as part of our specialist timetable.

In 2026, Music and Performing Art is led by Mrs Bright a talented musician skilled in paino, singing and production.

The Music Curriculum

Music and performing arts provide students with opportunities to explore rhythm, movement, sound and expression. Through shared creative experiences, students develop listening skills, collaboration and confidence in communicating ideas in different ways.

At Rosanna Primary School the music and drama curriculum aims to develop students’:

  • confidence to be creative, innovative, thoughtful, skilful and informed musicians
  • skills to listen, improvise, compose, interpret, perform and respond with intent and purpose
  • aesthetic knowledge and respect for music and music practices across global communities, cultures and musical traditions
  • understanding of music as an aural art form, its relationship with other art forms and contributions to cultures and societies.
  • conceptual and perceptual ideas through embodied practices and inquiry processes
  • confidence and self-esteem to explore, depict and celebrate human experience, take risks and challenge their own creativity
  • knowledge and understanding in applying and analysing the elements, processes, forms, styles and techniques of drama to engage audiences and create and convey meaning
  • a sense of curiosity, aesthetic knowledge and achievement through exploring and playing roles, and imagining situations, actions and ideas as artists and audiences
  • knowledge and understanding of traditional and contemporary drama as critical and active participants, artists and audiences
  • knowledge of the language of drama and theatre.

Music and performing arts in the classroom

Music and performing arts are taught to students from Prep to Year 6 through regular specialist lessons. Learning is planned to be age‑appropriate and builds gradually over time.
In the early years, students explore music and movement through songs, rhythm games and imaginative play. As students progress through the year levels, learning may include basic instruments, singing, dramatic play and movement activities that support creative expression and teamwork.

Lessons are designed to be inclusive and engaging. Students are encouraged to participate at their own pace and to share ideas in a supportive environment. Activities may include listening and responding to music, creating sounds and movement, and working together in group performances.
Learning focuses on enjoyment, participation and process rather than performance or outcomes. Prior experience is not required.

The School Musical

Every even year, students are engaged in a whole school Musical where student are able to demonstrate their learning from performaning arts. This is a major event for Rosanna Primary School and is held externally at a Performing Arts Theatre. In previous year the musical has centred around theme like 'Back to the Future' and ' Once Apon a Time'. These are based on script written by students with dances developed as a class. These are recorded proffesional to provide an everlasting memory for families.
