Student wellbeing and support

Rosanna Primary School is a Victorian government primary school in Rosanna. Supporting student wellbeing is a shared responsibility across our school community. We aim to create a calm, inclusive and respectful environment where students feel safe, connected and supported to learn.

Restorative practices and staying connected

Restorative practices support students to build and repair relationships when challenges arise. Children are still developing social and emotional skills, and misunderstandings or conflict can be part of learning how to work with others.

Through guided conversations, active listening and shared problem‑solving, students are supported to talk about feelings, understand different perspectives and take responsibility for their actions. This approach strengthens relationships and helps maintain a respectful and supportive school environment.

Prep–Year 6 buddies program

The buddies program supports connections between Year 6 students and Prep students. The program begins during orientation and continues across the school year, helping young students feel welcome and supported as they start school.

Older students provide friendship, reassurance and guidance within the school environment. This supports a sense of belonging for Prep students, while also encouraging leadership, care and responsibility in Year 6 students.

School‑wide positive behaviour support

Rosanna Primary School uses a whole‑school approach to promote positive behaviour. Clear expectations are based on the school values of respect, inclusion, collaboration and kindness and are shared consistently across learning and play spaces.

This approach helps students understand expectations, supports fairness and consistency, and focuses on building positive relationships rather than punishment.

Core features of School-Wide Positive Behaviour include of RICK values (Respect, Inclusive, Coolaboration and Kindness) and our student reward program. When students are caught displaying these values, students are rewarded with a stamp whcih build toward short term indiviual rewards and long term whole school rewards.

Mental Health in Primary School initiative

Rosanna Primary School participates in the Mental Health in Primary Schools Initiative. This program is a partnership between the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, the University of Melbourne, and the Victorian Department of Education. Through this collaboration, we work together to support student wellbeing and ensure every child feels safe, settled, and connected to our school community.

Lunchtime clubs and connection

During Lunchtime student-led clubs provide opportunities for students to connect with peers in smaller, interest‑based groups. These clubs support inclusion and offer additional ways for students to feel comfortable and engaged during break times. Due to our promixity to the Rosanna Park Lands, students have the unique opportunity to join our Birding Club. Please see Mr Jackson if you are interested in join.

Other clubs inlcude our student led coding club. This is run by our digitech leaders who work with students to develop coding skill, supported by teachers.
Student also led various social groups in the playground with the support of teachers. This can include drawing clubs, netball clubs and various games.
